A hardware store in Batu Bersurat was damaged by a fire that broke out around 4.54am yesterday. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene following a distress call, and firefighters found thick smoke billowing from the shop at a commercial building, according to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD).
Assistant station officer Azami bin Haji Bungsu and 17 firefighters, managed to control the fire within 20 minutes. The fire is believed to have been caused by an overheated lithium-ion battery stored in the key-making area. Damage costs are still being ascertained. The FRD, meanwhile, advised the public to follow safety measures when it comes to electric equipment. – James Kon
