Two individuals were issued compound fines of BND100 each by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) for disposing cigarette stubs at a commercial building area in Kampong Sengkurong on October 30.
Mohammad Shamrullah bin Hamni and Nanda Aprisandi, fined under the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021, were given seven days to pay the fine or face court action.
If convicted in court, the fines will range from BND1,000 to BND3,000 for the first offence, and up to BND9,000 or six months in prison for repeat offences. The department urged members of the public to ensure the surrounding environment is kept clean. – Daniel Lim
