However, for those studying or living abroad, away from their loved ones, the experience of Ramadhan can be tinged with a sense of loneliness and longing.

In the United Kingdom (UK), the Brunei Religious Officers Student Association (BruROSA) fulfills a vital role in uniting Bruneian individuals studying or working abroad.
As members of the Bruneian community navigate life in a foreign land, particularly during significant religious occasions like Ramadhan, BruROSA serves as a guiding light of support and solidarity, fostering connections and providing a sense of belonging.
INTERFAITH CONNECTOR
Established on February 1, 2015, the BruROSA serves as a crucial bridge connecting Bruneian students in the UK and Ireland, particularly in matters pertaining to religious affairs.
With a commitment to fostering a sense of community and support among students abroad, BruROSA diligently addresses their spiritual needs and concerns.
Through its vision to be an approachable and inclusive platform for students and its mission to act as a liaison, promote social integration, organise Islamic events, provide academic and religious guidance, and offer Islamic classes, BruROSA stands as a vital resource for Bruneian students navigating life and studies overseas.
POWER OF PURPOSE
Celebrating its 15th annual occurrence, Kem Ibadah returned for the 15th time on March 1, themed ‘Power of Purpose,’ hosted at YHA Okehampton in Devon.
Facilitated by the BruROSA, this camp brought together a cohort of 32 students, comprising 19 eager participants and 13 dedicated committee members.
Hailing from diverse corners of the UK and Eire, these attendees converged to engage in a spiritually enriching experience curated by the association.
The event commenced with a serene ambiance as Maghrib and Isyak congregational prayers set the spiritual tone for the weekend.
Following the introduction to the camp’s theme and the delightful aroma of nasi katok, a traditional Bruneian dish, bonds naturally formed as attendees exchanged stories over supper, transforming strangers into friends.
The ice-breaking sessions on day one were marked by laughter and camaraderie as participants engaged in team-building activities, fostering connections and preparing for the journey ahead. Day two commenced with dawn prayers and insightful discussions on the virtues of Sunnat Tahajjud prayer and Al-Ma’thurat, illuminating the profound beauty within Islam.
The opening ceremony, attended by esteemed guests including the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland First Admiral (Rtd) Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, set the stage for a series of engaging activities and talks centred on the theme ‘Power of Purpose’.
Highlights of the camp included an interactive forum led by speakers, Ustaz Fahmi and Ustazah Dr Widad, who delved into the essence of life’s purpose, leaving a profound impact on participants.
A tear-jerker session emphasised the importance of familial ties, reminding attendees of the blessings of maintaining connections with loved ones despite physical distances.
Day three unfolded with further spiritual enrichment sessions, culminating in a closing ceremony where outstanding individuals and groups were recognised for their exemplary participation and teamwork.
Team MPB and Team DANG were honoured as the Best Male and Female Teams, while Mohammad Shamsul Bazli Bashreen and Wan Siti Imanina Syazwani Suhaimi were awarded Best Male and Female Participants for their outstanding contributions.
As the event drew to a close, participants exchanged tokens of appreciation, captured memories in a group photo session, and reflected on the enriching experiences shared throughout the 15th Kem Ibadah. Gratitude was extended to sponsors and contributors for their support in making the event a success.
SPIRITUAL REFLECTION
As the curtains close on the 15th Kem Ibadah and the echoes of heartfelt prayers and enlightening discussions fade away, the spirit of unity and purpose continues to resonate.
