Filipino woman embraces Islamic faith

A Filipino woman converted to Islam after reciting Syahadah at a conversion ceremony at the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) yesterday.

Spouse of the Minister of Religious Affairs Datin Hajah Nahriah binti Haji Awang Asbi was the guest of honour. The ceremony began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the recitation of Syahadah by convert Margie Landiga Caermare, now known as Farah Syazadi binti Abdullah, in the presence of an officer from the Muallaf Development Division, PDI. The ceremony continued with the presentation of souvenirs to the newly converted Philippine national by the guest of honour before ending with Dikir Marhaban and Doa Selamat. Some 294 individuals embraced the Islam faith from January to September this year, with 65 being Philippine nationals.

PDI’s Acting Director Haji Ahmad Abdussalam bin Haji Abdul Rahman and Acting Assistant Director Hajah Zunainah binti Haji Gunong were also present. – Azlan Othman
