A Filipino woman, Melody Valles Mateo, 33, chose Islam as her new faith and the way of life during a conversion ceremony at the Dakwah Unit Office in Tutong District yesterday.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the recitation of Syahadah by Melody Valles Mateo, now known as Nur Faizah binti Abdullah Mateo.
The ceremony continued with Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, the guest of honour, presenting souvenirs to the new convert.
Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) Director Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh and PDI Deputy Director Haji Ahmad Abdussalam bin Haji Abdul Rahman were also present.
Between January and June 4 this year, 144 individuals have converted to Islam nationwide, with 38 in the Tutong District. – Rokiah Mahmud
