A Filipino family converted to Islam on Thursday, reciting the Syahadah and embracing their new faith in a ceremony in Kampong Batong.
Albert Obelosa Gavino, 35 is now known as Muhammad Makeen Albert bin Abdullah.
His wife, 35-year-old Princess Cunanan Guillermo chose Raf a Princess binti Abdullah as her Muslim name.
Meanwhile, their children eight-year-old Dirk Mycley Gullermo and eight-month-old Aeris Lucas Guillermo Gavino are now known as Ridhwan bin Abdullah and Omar Lucas bin Muhammad Makeen Albert.
Following the ceremony, the family then was presented with souvenirs and were sprinkled with scented flowers.
Director of the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh was the guest of honour.
According to the PDI, some 192 persons converted to Islam from January to June this year. – Lyna Mohamad
