The fight to determine the last two spots in the Brunei Super League (BSL) will begin on January 20 with Brunei-Muara District’s AKSE Bersatu facing off Lun Bawang FC from the Temburong District.
BSL officials shared the playoff schedule during a manager’s meeting on Sunday.
The playoff will continue with Lun Bawang FC facing HR FT of the Belait District on January 27 and conclude with the match between HR FT and AKSE Bersatu on February 3.
The top two will earn a slot in the BSL’s 2023 season which begins, joining the likes of Kota Ranger FC and Kasuka FC in the country’s top flight.
Lun Bawang, who arrived in the domestic football circuit in 2002, will be making a comeback since they withdrew their participation in the BSL in 2018.
It was also announced that DPMM FC will not play in BSL 2023 to focus on their participation in the Singapore Premier League. The team will still participate in development leagues.
Addressing the concerns about the age of players, the meeting declared that players aged 35 and above must provide medical fitness certification.
The meeting also declared that BSL teams must start two under-21 (U21) players and have a minimum of four U21 players registered in each match of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Brunei Futsal League 2023 will also be launched with 10 teams.
