Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) sponsored the planting of 50 saplings at Muara Beach yesterday, as part of the bank’s support for the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition 2023 (Brunei MYCE) 2023 ‘Environment Week’.
BIBD Managing Director and CEO Junaidi bin Haji Masri as well as the bank’s management and staff participated.
The event served as a representation of the bank’s dedication to foster a sustainable environment and preserve the beauty of Brunei’s natural landscapes.
Organised in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the World Environment Day, ‘Environment Week’ was themed ‘Road Towards a Sustainable Environment #BeTheSolution’.
The bank’s involvement in the activity aligns with its overarching commitment to the BIBD Sustainability Framework. Under the strategic pillar of Environmental Protection, BIBD also seeks to support the Brunei Darussalam National Council on Climate Change’s goal of Net Zero by 2050 as well as global commitments such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) as well as SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This furthers the cause of environmental preservation in alignment with global objectives.
Last year, BIBD partnered with stakeholders such as the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, the Department of Environment Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) as well as several NGOs and corporate partners for its tree planting initiative, under the Sustainable Nation Campaign.
Through the initiatives, BIBD is also upholding the Maqasid Syariah principles, ensuring that environment preservation is regarded as an essential aspect of societal well-being. BIBD’s endeavours are also in line with the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035, which emphasises a high quality of life.
Through initiatives like the tree planting activity, BIBD endeavours to inspire and mobilise others to embrace sustainability and take collective action towards building a greener and more prosperous future for Brunei. – James Kon
