Around 800 students and 50 teachers of Jigsaw Primary School ushered in the Year of the Rabbit with a lion dance as well as performances during a Chinese New Year celebration yesterday.

Jigsaw Primary School Chief Executive Officer and principal Helen Chin, Chief Operating Officer and medical advisor Dr Jimmy Chin and spouse, and special guest from Thailand Misakaswet attended the ceremony as students wore the auspicious colour red.

The event began with Helen Chin’s explaining the 12 Chinese zodiac animals, followed with the presentation of red packets to rabbit celebrants.

The event then saw a lion dance by the school’s Chinese students, as well as performances from 14 Year 4 students, 14 Year 3 students, 30 Year 1 students and 25 Kindergarten 3 students.

Before concluding, 87 red packets were given to performers, best dressed winners, stage decorators, as well as to the school’s caretaker for the support throughout.

Through the celebration, the school aimed to nurture the sense of coexistence within its community, and to raise awareness of cultural values.

Mini lions made an appearance at Jigsaw Primary School as one of the highlights of the school’s Chinese New Year celebration. The lion dance was performed by Chinese students from the school to the delight of the crowd.
