Festival brings Dusun community together

The Adau Gayoh Festival serves to strengthen ties among the Dusun community and villages in the Tutong District, said Kampong Ukong Village Head Hakimi bin Abdullah Gampar.

He said this at the Adau Gayoh Festival organised by the Kampong Ukong Village Consultative Council (MPK Ukong) and Pakatan Sang Jati Dusun (PSJD) at the Kampong Ukong Sports Arena yesterday.

This was the second iteration of the festival with the first at the Sungai Liang Recreational Park last year.

Some 130 participants were involved in the performance segment which included a silat and kuntau showcase and playing of the traditional game called kecapi.

The performers represented MPK Ukong, Kampong Bukit Udal, Kampong Kebia, Kampong Bukit and Kampong Sungai Liang cultural groups, Kampong Batang Mitus Dukong Silai and children group.

The festival also showcased the Gendang Kayu Sedaman by Kampong Bukit and Kampong Long Mayan cultural groups and Makan Padi Baru festival, a dance showing the process of rice after the paddy harvesting season.

Legislative Council members Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee and Penghulu of Mukim Ukong Yang Berhormat Haji Mohammad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub, Acting Tutong District Officer Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri and Brunei History Centre Principal Dr Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong also attended.
