Regular blood donor Norhayati binti Haji Mohd Jamil cited her father as the inspiration behind her commitment.
“I wanted to donate blood to help the country, especially now that we understand there is a low level of blood supply. A single donation can save up to three lives,” she said during a blood donation campaign organised by D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd at its premises.
She added that her father had challenged her to surpass his record of over 100 donations.
Donor Suriadi shared that donating blood always left him feeling refreshed and energised.
“Every time after I donate blood, I feel more energetic and I also want to help save lives, especially for people who need blood transfusions,” he said.
Suriadi, who has lived in Brunei for around 20 years, has been donating blood since his arrival from Indonesia.
He encouraged others not to fear the process, noting its benefits for personal health and the wider community.
A total of 140 pints of blood were collected during the blood donation campaign. The campaign, supported by the Blood Donation Centre of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital from 10am to 3pm saw D’Sunlit Managing Director Jackson Ting and staff members participating.
The company noted that the annual campaign is part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts.
Meanwhile, first-time donor Thomas Chieng, 53, admitted to previously avoiding blood donation due to a fear of needles.
“This time, I chose not to run away and successfully donated blood because I wanted to help people who need transfusions,” he shared. – James Kon
