WASHINGTON (Bernama-UPI) – A train to Britain’s Gatwick Airport was cancelled after a pair of mischievous squirrels boarded without tickets, causing chaos for paying passengers, United Press International (UPI) reported.
Great Western Railway said the train from Reading, England, to Gatwick Airport in London was diverted on Saturday due to the squirrels on board.
Officials said human passengers were evacuated to other carriages, and a Network Rail employee attempted to use food to lure the animals off the train at a stop in Redhill.
The train was ultimately sent back to Reading when one of the squirrels refused to leave.
“We can confirm that the 08.54 Reading to Gatwick service was terminated at Redhill after a pair of squirrels boarded the train at Gomshall without tickets, breaching railway byelaws,” a GWR representative told the BBC. “We attempted to remove them at Redhill, but one refused to leave and was returned to Reading, bringing an end to this nutty tale.”
