Family institution builds, nurtures future generations

Islam places great emphasis on the importance of family life by laying out principles aimed at preserving and protecting the institution from destruction and disharmony. The family institution is also a foundation in building and nurturing future generations.

This was said by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang as a representative of Acting Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, the guest of honour, at the International Mu’tamar on Fiqh Al-Usrah 2023 (MUAFIQ23) yesterday.

Haji Mohd Serudin said each family member has their roles and responsibilities including nurturing, obedience and living a religious life.He said it is the duty of everyone to provide education including teaching religion; protecting the family from disturbances, threats, negative influences and violence; provide sustenance; and create a comfortable, respectful, affectionate and loving environment.

The two-day seminar organised by Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ Community Development Department (JAPEM) is participated by over 200 comprising officers and staff of ministries and institutions of higher learning.

Themed ‘Membina Keluarga Bahagia Bertauladankan Rasulullah SAW’, four main papers and 22 research papers on various topics will be shared according to sub-themes including Islamic Family Education; Akhlak; Tafsir; Hadith; Aqidah; Teladan Rasulullah SAW; and Islamic law.

Fiqh Al-Usrah Research Centre Director Dr Haji Sham bin Haji Amin as chairman of MUAFIQ23 said the event’s objective is to uphold the importance of building a happy and perfect family.

He added that the seminar also strives to practise Tarbiyah Islam in family institutions by emulating the ways of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh); empowering Islamic family education among Muslims; identifying issues and challenges in family life; and finding short-term and long-term solutions towards a harmonious, happy and fulfilling family life.

The seminar is also aimed at providing insights into the importance of religious values in achieving an ideal Muslim family life.

The speeches were followed by the presentation of a paper by Universiti Malaya’s Academy of Islamic Studies Department of Siasah Syar’iyyah Associate Professor Dr Sharifah Hayaati binti Syed Ismail on ‘Managing family and work conflicts in the New Era based on a Dakwah Approach’.

It continued with a paper by KUPU SB Ra’es Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar titled, ‘Family education and curriculum as the main Madrasah’ discussing the building of a harmonious, loving and blessed family. The afternoon session saw eight research papers delivered in parallel sessions. It included – ‘Keluarga Sakinah: Isu, Cabaran dan Penyelesaian di Negara Brunei Darussalam’; ‘Motherhood in the 21st Century: Worries and Challenges’; ‘Penilaian modul kursus pra-nikah Bahagian Khidmat Nasihat Keluarga’; ‘Rights of Divorced Muslim Women in Thailand under the Muslim Family Law and Law of Inheritance Code, 1946’; ‘Home based food family business from Halalan Thoyyyiban perspectives: Past and Future’; ‘Pengaruh ibu bapa dalam mentarbiyah anak-anak terhadap pemakanan halal’; ‘Pendidikan akhlak dalam membentuk sahsiah anak menurut perspektif Abdullah Nasih Ulwan’ and ‘Islamic education curriculum policy at basic education level (Comparison Study between Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam)’.

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud and Permanent Secretary (Community) at the MCYS Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari and KUPU SB Ra’es Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar were also present.
