Some 70 members of the extended family of Haji Gunung bin Haji Idros (HGHI Family) gathered at Seri Kenangan Beach in the Tutong District for their fourth family day celebration yesterday.

The event, organised by the families from Kampong Bukit Beruang and Kampong Lamunin, brought together relatives from various parts of the Sultanate and beyond.

Mohd Abu Bakar bin Haji Mahari, whose wife is a member of the family, expressed his joy to the Bulletin, saying, “Alhamdulillah, it was heartwarming to see everyone come together, creating cherished memories while strengthening familial ties. The happiness shared today is truly priceless.”

STRENGTHENING BONDS ACROSS GENERATIONS

The main objective of the gathering was to foster family harmony, enhance relationships and create opportunities for children and adults alike to enjoy a fun-filled day.

“We wanted to bring together family members near and far, to reconnect, share laughs, and relax, especially during the school holidays,” Mohd Abu Bakar said.

The family selected Seri Kenangan Beach for its spacious grounds, scenic views and availability of facilities such as picnic huts, providing a perfect backdrop for both relaxation and activities.

The day was packed with activities designed to entertain both children and adults.

FUN AND GAMES FOR ALL AGES

For the younger attendees, games included candy hunts, balloon-popping contests and sack races.

Meanwhile, the adults participated in events such as couple-matching games, longest voice challenges, caterpillar race and a playful sack race that involved carrying their partners in sarongs.

There were also prizes and gifts distributed to family members and lucky draw rewards.

A TRADITION WORTH CONTINUING

This marked the fourth time the family held such a gathering, and plans are already in motion to organise the next reunion during future school holidays or year-end breaks.

“Insya Allah, we hope to continue this tradition and make it an annual event,” Mohd Abu Bakar shared, emphasising the importance of nurturing family connections in today’s fast-paced world.

The families brought with them memories and left with hearts full of gratitude and joy, leaving nothing but footprints at the beach.

“Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces and feeling the warmth of togetherness is a blessing,” Mohd Abu Bakar said, reflecting on the success of the day. – Fadley Faisal
