Faith and piety were highlighted as essential virtues for navigating life’s challenges and fulfilling one’s responsibilities during this week’s Friday sermon. Drawing from Quranic verses and prophetic traditions, the sermon emphasised that a strong foundation of faith provides resilience and purpose in life.
The sermon compared life without faith to a house without a solid foundation—vulnerable to collapse and incapable of providing protection. It was noted that unwavering belief in Allah the Almighty shields individuals from despair, hardship, and sin, while bringing peace, strength, and divine guidance.
Congregants were urged to nurture and strengthen their faith through acts of worship and learning. Among the recommended practices were:
Studying the Quran and Hadith: Understanding divine commands and prohibitions to better navigate life’s path.
Reflecting on the lives of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions: Drawing inspiration for righteous living.
Embracing Islamic values: Practising patience, humility, and gratitude as pillars of strong character.
Regular recitation of the Quran and acts of zikr (remembrance of Allah the Almighty), such as tasbih (glorification), tahmid (praise), and istighfar (seeking forgiveness), were also highlighted as vital to maintaining a deep connection with Allah the Almighty.
Believers were encouraged to study the life and character of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to cultivate love for him and adopt his values of compassion, wisdom, and dedication to righteousness. The sermon stressed that following the Prophet’s example leads to self-improvement and deeper faith.
The sermon called for sincerity in actions and a commitment to purifying the heart from negative traits such as greed, arrogance, and envy. Believers were reminded to practise patience, place trust in Allah the Almighty, and engage in acts of kindness and charity. – Hakim Hayat
