The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) received a delegation comprising senior sport officials from China at the FABD House yesterday.
The 11-member delegation from the Sports Bureau of Guangxi was led by Deputy Director General of the Sports Bureau Lu Yiwen and included Mayor of Baise Pingguo City Guo Jia.
FABD President Haji Feisal bin Haji Eusoff Patail accompanied by Deputy President Haji Mahrub bin Haji Murni and senior officials welcomed the delegation.
During the visit, FABD and the Chinese officials discussed bilateral matters and explored areas for potential cooperation on common interest.
“Broadly speaking, though we are the new young custodians of FABD, but, we are very determined to do our best for the most popular sport in Brunei Darussalam,” the president said.
He added, “We hope Guangxi Sports Bureau will be yet another of our supporters. We hope we shall be able to work out some football exchanges for our mutual benefit.”
The FABD is currently finalising the necessary memorandom of understanding (MoU) paperwork to submit to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF).
“We hope the Guangxi delegation would likewise consider signing a win-win MoU with us as well.”
The FABD President also highlighted the 3-2 victory against Vanuatu as a crowning milestone of the new administration – the national team’s first international victory since its establishment in 1959.
Haji Feisal also outlined plans to systematically strengthen football at the grassroots, youth, Brunei Super League and district football as well as acknowledging the support of other stakeholders.
Guangxi Pingguo Haliao Guojing Football Club will be playing DPMM FC in an international friendly match at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium tonight. – Fadhil Yunus
