Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan, General Secretary Mohammad Shahnon bin Haji Mohd Salleh and FABD Executive Committee member Pengiran Waslimin bin Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin are currently in Kigali, Rwanda to attend the 73rd FIFA Congress 2023 organised at the BK Arena which runs from March 13 until today.

The congress, chaired by FIFA president, is important to FABD as it brings together FIFA member associations, heads of confederations and FIFA invitees to discuss and decide on current issues in the world of football, according to a press statement.

The highlight of the congress was the 2023 FIFA Presidential Election with Gianni Infantino re-elected as the President for four more years, after running unopposed at the congress of world football’s ruling body. Infantino will be serving his final term of office as of 2023.

“Being FIFA president is a big honour and privilege but also a huge responsibility. You can continue to trust in my commitment,” he said.

During the congress, the Annual Report 2022, the FIFA Budget for 2023-2026 and proposals by the member associations outlining its respective detailed budgets for 2024 are discussed and approved. The congress will also approve the minutes of the 72nd FIFA Congress, Doha 2022.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised the inspirational governance of two of Africa’s most prominent leaders at a special ceremony organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) – where President of Rwanda Paul Kagame and His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco were celebrated with outstanding achievement awards.

The two officials played vital roles in the development of sports in the (African) continent, especially in football by supporting regional competitions and advocating for the well-being of sport professionals.

Pengiran Matusin, Mohammed Shahnon and Pengiran Waslimin will also hold strategic meetings with international stakeholders on ways to move forward together, and how member associations can assist the Sultanate with their post-FABD Football Forum 2023 action plans.

The three FABD delegates will also visit Qatar to activate FABD’s memorandum of cooperation with the Qatar Football Association.
