The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) attended the 33rd Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress in Manama, Bahrain last Wednesday.
FABD President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan led the delegation, which included Executive Commitee member Haji Adee Suhardee bin Haji Muhidin and General Secretary Mohammad Shahnon bin Haji Mohd Salleh. The national football governing body strengthened bilateral relationships with other AFC member associations as well as potential partnerships and cooperations.
The Congress saw the re-election of Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalif as AFC President for the term 2023-2027.
The new-look committee also saw the appointments of five chairs for AFC presidents; six chairs for FIFA council members, of whom shall also be an AFC female executive committee member; four chairs for AFC female executive committee members; as well as nine chairs for AFC executive committee members.
The president expressed appreciation to the outgoing members and congratulated the newly-appointed AFC Committee members and FIFA council members.
Turning its attentions to the host nation of the AFC Asian Cup 2027, the AFC also approved the Saudi Arabia Football Federation (SAFF) as the host association for the 19th edition of the continent tournament.
It will mark the first time it is held in Saudi Arabia.
On the sidelines, the AFC also strengthened its partnership with the global football family with the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), as well as the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC).
