The Language Construction and Development Division of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) on Wednesday continued its Malay Language, Literature and Culture International Congress Series (KABSBM) with an invited speaker from Malaysia.

Over 180 participants joined the online session held in conjunction with the Language Month.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Senior Lecturer Associate Professor Dr Mawar Safei presented her paper on Membaca Cerpen H Mar dan Satu Penziarahan Semula, while DBP Language Construction and Development Division Head Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak moderated.

The presentation focussed on H Mar’s short story-writing skills in Hidup Yang Mati and Exotis, and revisited five other reading references that mention the author’s extraordinary writing which appeared to show “an element of reform that deviates from tradition, as well as having a flow style of expressionism and modernism”.

DBP Acting Director Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, local and international presenters, DBP strategic partners, senior government officers, as well as local and international enthusiasts of language, literature and culture sat in for the session.

DBP strategic partners Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Brunei Youth Council (BYC), Brunei Darussalam Association of Writers (Asterawani) and Putra Seni Group (KPS) supported the organising of the KABSBM, with the main theme centring around Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa’.
