Exhibition showcases nation’s legacy to civil service

The 30th Civil Service Day, themed ‘Resilience and Unity in Civil Service: A Catalyst for National Prosperity’ was celebrated at the International Convention Centre in Berakas yesterday.

The theme highlighted the transformation and paradigm shift in governance and service delivery in the Sultanate to be dynamic, competitive, reinforcing its goals in safeguarding and ensuring the socio-economic and socio-cultural sustainability of the people.

The resilience of public service, rooted in faith and piety towards Allah the Almighty, is a key pillar of this innovative, responsive, compassionate and change-ready National Public Service.

The exhibition showcased the history, changes and innovations in public service in three different eras, from the evolution of the Resident System from 1906 to 1966 during the reign of Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam to Era 2, from 1967 to 1983, marking the ascension of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to the throne, leading to the period before the country gained independence and Era 3 from 1984 after the country’s independence to the present day.

It also showcased 12 government agencies that play pivotal roles, highlighting the coordination among ministries in providing excellent services to the public. They included Office for Wawasan Brunei 2035, the Public Service Department, the Treasury Department, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, the Ministry of Development, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, the Employees Trust Fund (TAP) and the Ministry of Health.

Various sustainability projects from participants in the Civil Service Leadership Pipeline (CSLP) programme who have been actively working on their projects with community engagement and through collaborations with non-governmental organisations, were also showcased. The exhibition, as part of the celebration, is open to the public until tomorrow from 8am to 4.30pm. – Adib Noor
