Events mark Islamic new year

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) celebrated the Islamic new year of 1444 Hijrah at the International Convention Centre (ICC) recently.

The event also highlighted the success of Zakat recipients who succeeded economically and academically. It also showed appreciation to the ministry’s partners in helping the recipients through several programmes.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the guest of honour, presented tokens of appreciation and prizes. Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan; Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim; and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang were also present. The celebration also saw a forum featuring Aydarus Ahmad Alhabshi from Singapore moderated by Dean of Syariah Faculty at Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) Dr Haji Noralizam bin Haji Aliakbar.

The minister also toured an exhibit on the successes of the Zakat recipients at the ICC concourse area.

Institute of Brunei Technical Education Sultan Bolkiah Campus

Over 300 students from Institute of Brunei Technical Education Sultan Bolkiah Campus (IBTE SBC) attended a celebration for the Islamic new year of 1444 Hijrah recently.

IBTE SBC operation manager Azman bin Haji Wahid attended the event held at the institute’s multipurpose hall.

The celebration began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by instructor Hanis bin Othman, followed by a performance from the students.

The event also saw a talk by Mosque Affairs Officer Haji Aminordin bin Haji Mohd Yussof on the significance of marking the new Islamic year. The speaker received a token of appreciation before the celebration concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat.

Prisons Department

The Prisons Department celebrated the Islamic new year of 1444 Hijrah at the Jongsarat Hall of its training centre recently, joined by Prisons Director Haji Mohammed Fadzillah bin Haji Ismail as the guest of honour.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Selawat Tafrijiyyah.

It also saw a lecture on ‘Patience, Strive, Trust and Pray’ by Islamic Da’wah Centre Religious Officer Mohd Nasyith bin Supri.
