Ambassador-designate of China to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo arrived in the country yesterday, vowing to spare no efforts to consolidate and strengthen the China-Brunei Strategic Cooperative Partnership and push forward pragmatic cooperation in all fields.

“A Malay proverb goes: Jauh di mata, dekat di hati. As the 12th ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam, I take my mission with great responsibility,” he said.

He looked forward to deepening people-to-people exchanges and traditional friendship, and strengthening communication and coordination in regional and international affairs to promote bilateral relations, bringing benefits.

In fulfilling the mission, he believed he can gain support and assistance from the Brunei government and friends as well as overseas Chinese.

He said, “I firmly believe that China-Brunei relations, just like the spring time, will be full of vigour and vitality with infinite hope and prosperous future.”

On his posting in Brunei Darussalam, he said, “It is a pleasure and honour to be posted here, the Abode of Peace and Shining Pearl of Borneo.”

He added, “Brunei is no stranger to me. I visited the country before and left a wonderful impression.

“Brunei enjoys political stability and social harmony with its gentle and kind people living a happy life. Its economic development is thriving and full of vitality. Brunei is promoting economic diversification, and making steady progress towards Brunei Vision 2035.

“I wish Brunei Darussalam prosperity, and its people greater happiness and well-being.

“May the friendship between our two peoples last forever.”
