Chinese Ambassador-designate to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo yesterday expressed hope that the resumption of direct flight between Bandar Seri Begawan, Beijing and Shanghai will happen soon as it will further boost exchanges and economic cooperation between the two countries.
He said this during a visit to the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association of Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
Xiao also praised the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association for its continued efforts to promote traditional Chinese culture and Mandarin language.
He said as the 12th Chinese ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, he believed that Chinese embassy personnel should seek further cooperation with Fuzhou Shiyyi Association members to increase support in strengthening ties and development of the two countries.
Fuzhou Shiyyi Association President Jackson Ting detailed the association’s many achievements, adding that it currently has over 400 members.
He also highlighted that the Fuzhou Shiyyi Association has been actively involved in national and social development efforts in a bid to contribute to the Sultanate’s economy.
“The members are doing their best to actively contribute to the development of the country, especially in line with Brunei Vision 2035,” he added.
Ting said members also participate in blood donation drives and contributed to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah fund for Orphans. He said the association conducts charitable activities and donates to fire victims.
“We participate in the annual donations to the Brunei Chinese School,” Ting added.
The president conveyed his gratitude to the previous ambassadors for their support and participation in the association’s activities.
Chargé d’ Affaires of the Embassy of China in Brunei Darussalam Wang Haitao and other embassy officials were also present.
The visit also saw the exchange of souvenirs between the ambassador-designate and Ting.
