Ensuring the rights of senior citizens

A clinic to help senior citizens understand their rights, responsibilities and protections under Syariah law was held in Kuala Belait yesterday.

Director of the Islamic Legal Unit at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Haji Hardifadhillah bin Haji Mohd Salleh said improving senior citizens’ understanding of Syariah law will contribute to their positive well-being and avoid potential neglect and abuse.

The director said the clinic also provides opportunities for government agencies to gather information on grievances and challenges faced by senior citizens, as part of the whole-of nation and whole-of-government approaches.

Agencies participating in the clinic included: the Syariah Court; the Supreme Court; Zakat Waqaf and Baitulmal Affairs Department; Syar’ie Prosecution Division; Religious Enforcement Division; Family Counselling Services Division; and the Syariah Affairs Department.
