Enhancing healthcare support for the underprivileged

In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare support for the underprivileged, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (Yayasan) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Medical Welfare Service of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Medical Social Work Department of Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC). The MoU marks the launch of the Patient Equipment Assistance Placement Project for the Needy, aimed at providing essential medical equipment to patients in need across the country.

Present at the signing at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital were Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yayasan; Minister of Health, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Chairman of PJSC; and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, member of the Yayasan Board of Directors and Chairman of the Yayasan Aid Review Committee.

Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development, and Acting Managing Director of Yayasan Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abd Razak, signed the MoU on behalf of Yayasan. The MoU for the Medical Welfare Service was signed by MoH Permanent Secretary Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, and for PJSC by its Executive Director, Dr Haji Mazrul Adimin bin Haji Awang Besar.

The ceremony also included the handing over of the Patient Equipment Assistance Placement Project for the Needy. Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II handed over the project to the Minister of Health, who then passed it on to Acting Chief Executive Officer of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, Abdol Hazis bin Haji Ahad, and to Dr Haji Mazrul Adimin bin Haji Awang Besar for PJSC.

The Patient Equipment Assistance Placement Project for the Needy is a long-term initiative by Yayasan, in collaboration with MoH and PJSC. Under this project, some medical equipment provided by Yayasan will be loaned, while other non-shareable equipment will be given on a one-off basis.

The assistance will be managed through the Medical Welfare Service of MoH and the Medical Social Work Department at PJSC, with Yayasan acting as the provider of the necessary equipment. The project will be centered at RIPAS Hospital and PJSC, encompassing patients across the country. – ROKIAH MAHMUD
