Energy seminar comes to a close

The two-day Energy Seminar came to a close yesterday as 370 participants exchanged views and spoke on the transition away from fossil fuels to renewables and alternate energy sources in the region.

Participant Mohd Khairul Anwar bin Bakar who works with the Berakas Power Company Sdn Bhd (BPD) believed that the seminar was a good platform to understand the current views and new technologies in the region.

He said as an energy provider, they are more interested in technology for renewable energy and ASEAN energy interconnectivity.

Meanwhile, BPC Head of Engineering and Projects Bernard Christian said the seminar had  been insightful.

He believed that more incentives to promote implementation of renewable energy or electric vehicles, such as tax policies, could help encourage more related projects.

The seminar, themed ‘A Just Energy Transition Towards Green and Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia’, was organised by the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office in collaboration with the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) to encourage regional knowledge transfer and enhance understanding for an accelerated ‘just’ energy transition.

It was also part of Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition 2023’s Energy Week.

A resolution containing key takeaways and recommendations from the seminar and the way forward was presented at the closing ceremony by Senior Officer of Sustainable Energy, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at Asian Development Bank Dr Zulfikar Yurnaidi.

A panel on ‘Exploring Financing Mechanisms for Energy Transition‘ was also held on the last day. – Lyna Mohamad & James Kon
