To the community of animal lovers, there seems to have been an increase in the number of rampant killings of stray dogs as of late.
These incidents have bred resentment among carers of strays, who cannot fathom the senseless and needless deaths.
Some believe that the fervour of animal welfare groups is precisely what emboldens the culprits to carry out more killings.
Ultimately, the stray animal issue in the country is rooted in the lack of responsibility among certain pet owners, who believe that abandoning their dogs and puppies in public places is perfectly fine.
Since there are no repercussions for dumping unwanted pets, these irresponsible individuals will continue to do it again and again. After all, what’s the worst thing that can happen, right?
Non-profit organisations that advocate for animal welfare have repeatedly called on the authorities to enact a law to keep animal abuse at bay. Not only is it high time to penalise those who abuse animals – or worse, end their lives – there needs to be laws to ensure the punishment is harsh enough to serve as a deterrent to future wrongdoings.
