Teqball has been receiving an encouraging response from the public, particularly among Sepak Takraw players, said Haji Muhammad Isa bin Haji Abu Bakar of the Brunei Teqball Association (BTA).

He said this during a mini tournament on the sideline of the Brunei History Challenge 2021 yesterday.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad who visited the mini tournament also participated in the game.

Haji Muhammad Isa added that their presence in the Brunei History Race Challenge also marked the association’s efforts in attracting more to join the association or form clubs to enable BTA to conduct more local tournaments and find teams to represent Brunei at competitions abroad.

Following the registration of the association under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) on December 7, 2020 and recognition by Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council on December 30, 2020, BTA has been promoting the sports.

It organised the first men’s singles tournament at The Mall, Gadong in June last year and its first major tournament, the President’s Cup last July, followed by Fitness Festival Mini Tournament Men’s doubles last September.

BTA, as the governing body officiated by International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) to promote Teqball in the Sultanate, has 12 committee members, comprising of public servants under the leadership of Mohammad Shukri bin Haji Damit.
