Empowering communities through engagement

The Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) participated in the Community Empowerment Impacts Conference 2023 (UBAYA CEIC 2023) from November 14 to 16 in Ubaya University in Surabaya, Indonesia.

The conference, chaired by Universiti Sains Malaysia (UMS), was attended by university representatives from Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia. The conference was held in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN).

KUPU Ra’es Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar attended the conference as an APUCEN Council member while KUPU SB’s assistant lecturer Ali Hardi bin Haji Mohamed was the secretary for KUPU SB-APUCEN. Ali Hardi shared KUPU SB’s leadership and religious programmes fostered by its students at mosques in the country.

He also shared on the university college’s community service programmes, aimed to strengthen student competencies.

The conference provided an opportunity for KUPU SB representatives to exchange views on community engagement programmes to improve them in terms of management and engagement.

APUCEN is a regional network of academic institutions encouraging a culture of university-community engagement.

KUPU SB has been an active member since 2013, both as a council member and an organiser under the University-Community Engagement Network. – Rokiah Mahmud
