Employment Order violations exposed

Four violations under the Employment Order, 2009 were unearthed by the Law Enforcement Division of the Department of Labour during Operation Siaga 249/2024 at a pet supplies business in Kampong Kiarong recently.

The violations were unauthorised salary deductions (Section 44), the failure to pay overtime wages (Section 39), exceeding the prescribed working hours (Section 65) and denying medically-certified sick leave (Section 72).

Employers found violating the order face fines of up to BND1,000 per offence. The failure to settle the fines may lead to prosecution.

The Department of Labour reminded employers to prioritise employee welfare by adhering to the Employment Order, 2009, including timely overtime payments, authorised deductions only, regulated working hours and the provision of medically-certified sick leave. – Fadley Faisal
