Employment agency found violating labour laws

An employment agency was found to have violated labour laws when the Labour Department conducted an operation in Kampong Mulaut recently to ensure businesses complied with the Employment Order 2009.

Among the offences were the failure to provide first aid equipment and obtain permission from the authorities to conduct an employment agency.

If found guilty, the company will face a fine of not more than BND5,000 for the first offence and not more than BND10,000 for the second and subsequent offence for violating Employment Order 2009.

The company will also face a BND1,000 fine for violating Employment Order 2009 and produced in court if the fine is not settled.

The agency in a statement reminded employers to monitor the welfare of their employees under the requirements of the Employment Order 2009, including the provision of employment contracts, the timely payment of wages and to not misuse the Foreign Worker License. – Azlan Othman
