Employer found violating labour laws

Authorities found an employer violating labour laws after joint inspections were carried out at a number of locations.

According to the Labour Department, inspections were recently carried out with officers from the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) and the Department of Electrical Services (DES) at Kampong Tanjung Nangka, Kampong Lambak and Kampong Subok.

Labour Department officials found the employer failing to provide annual leave, failing to provide sick leave and housing foreign workers in quarters not declared to the Labour Department, violating the Employment Order, 2009,

Meanwhile, the DES issued a warning for irregular and outdated wiring, said the department, adding that the INRD found no violations.

The Labour Department reminded employers to monitor employee welfare affairs in accordance with Employment Order, 2009, which includes providing clean and adequate housing for foreign employees. The address of the employee’s residence must also be declared to the Labour Department. – Azlan Othman
