An employer of a car workshop in Kampong Lumapas was found to have committed three offences under the Employment Order, 2009, said the Labour Department yesterday.

The department said an inspection carried out at the workshop found two offences under Section 112(2) where the employer was carrying out activities different from the ones authorised by the Labour Commissioner as well as an abuse of the Foreign Worker’s Licence by having a foreign employee licensed as a welder working as a car mechanic.

The employer was also found to have violated Section 82 for not providing first aid equipment.

The employer faces fines of up to BND1,000 for violating the Employment Order 2009.

The Labour Department reminded employers to not misuse the Foreign Worker’s Licence, comply with the Employment Order, 2009 and monitor employee welfare in accordance with the law, such as providing first aid equipment. – Azlan Othman
