The Labour Department busted an employer in the Belait District for a number of labour violations, including failure to provide rest days for employees.
According to the department, the offences were discovered by enforcement officials during an inspection on the dry food industry in Sungai Teraban.
Authorities found that the employer had failed to give rest days, had staff work in excess to prescribed working hours and violating the terms of the foreign worker’s licence.
The department said a foreign employee licensed to be a gardener and two others licensed as domestic helpers were working as cooks.
Meanwhile, in the Brunei-Muara District, the department said an employer in Kampong Tanjong Nangka was found to have hired a foreign worker without a licence and for violating terms of the foreign worker’s licence.
A foreign worker licensed to be a foreman was found working as a cleaner while a worker employed as a concrete placer was instead working as a grass cutter. – Azlan Othman
