Embrace change, keep learning, says Thai Princess

One should never stop learning. “Some of my strategies for learning include travelling and writing, and over the past 50 years, I have written more than 60 books,” said Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

“Through this process, I reflect and learn to improve, and help disadvantaged groups and students in remote areas through the projects I implement. I have recognised the challenges and overcame them with resilience, and I encourage you to do the same,” she said

She made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the 5th Princess Maha Chakri Award Forum, held at IMPACT Arena, Exhibition and Convention Centre, Bangkok, Thailand, via a live online broadcast at the Thai Embassy in Brunei Darussalam yesterday.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, presiding over the opening ceremony, said, “As a teacher myself, I believe it is essential to equip our students with knowledge, particularly knowledge for the 21st Century. Influenced by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), we have to adjust ourselves to make use of AI to benefit the teaching and learning of our students.”

Her Royal Highness also said, “I once gave a lecture on technology for learning in the next century in 1999. I pointed out that despite the rapid changes in technology, core learning skills should remain. These core skills include literacy, employability, self-balance, ethics, and social adaptation.”

Director of the Department of Educators Management Masdiah binti Haji Tuah, Acting Director of Schools Hamidah binti Haji Daud and Thai Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Boosara Kanchanalai along with other guests, attended the broadcast.

The Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA) is an international award established in 2015 to honour Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand’s outstanding achievements in education and in advancing people’s quality of life, especially among the region’s most disadvantaged groups.

The award is given to outstanding teachers from ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste who have changed students’ lives and made significant contributions to education in their countries. At the forum, Brunei’s 2023 PMCA recipient, Pengiran Kesuma Negara Bukit Beruang Primary School English Literacy Coach Mohammad Amir Irwan bin Haji Moskin delivered his report during the opening ceremony.

Mohammad Amir Irwan highlighted his activities after receiving the PMCA award, as well as his future plans. These include developing and leading professional development workshops for teachers across various levels, fostering regional collaboration with other PMCA recipients, and pursuing advanced certifications in educational leadership and curriculum development. – James Kon
