Embrace Bruneian values to safeguard sovereignty

Citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam are urged to carry out their responsibilities and obligations to contribute to the protection of the Sultanate’s sovereignty, well-being, development, harmony and peace.

“These should be instilled upon the citizens and residents by embracing Bruneian values and characteristics such as being friendly, courteous, polite and not hesitating to look after the well-being of the country’s population,” said Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman. He said this during the 38th citizenship certificate presentation ceremony to 860 individuals at Bridex Hall in Jerudong yesterday.

“Responsible citizens and residents should understand and practice the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) national philosophy that has been a way of life for a long time. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during the finals of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults for 1444 Hijrah on July 6 in a titah said Al-Quran is a blessing for the humankind by guiding the lost towards the righteous path. His Majesty also reminded Bruneian citizens and residents to be grateful for joy and happiness as well as be patient in facing difficulties and calamities,” said the minister.

“His Majesty’s titah indicates the monarch’s hope for the Brunei population to stand strong and firm when facing challenges.

“With a strong Bruneian identity, we will not be easily influenced by external elements with vested interests.

“It should be natural for us all to support and ensure government policies are implemented successfully.

“Without the population’s support, the government’s plans will meet a dead end.

“It is therefore important for all citizens and residents to work together with the nation’s leaders to achieve Brunei’s vision to be a developed country by 2035.

“Bruneians should be grateful because we are blessed with a monarch who is caring and pays attention to the people’s well-being.

“With His Majesty’s wisdom and leadership, we can enjoy continued peace and calm, which are blessings from Allah the Almighty.”

The minister also congratulated the citizenship certificate recipients and expressed gratitude to the Immigration and National Registration Department officers and staff as well as the other parties involved. – James Kon
