The trade volume between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia has increased from USD133.7 million in 2018 to USD897.3 million in 2022, said Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Dr Achmad Ubaedillah during the launch of the Indonesia Halal Expo 2024 yesterday at the opening day of the 29th Consumer Fair in International Convention Centre, Berakas.
He expressed hope that the halal expo will generate interest among Brunei investors in the halal industry in Indonesia as it is worth around BND400 billion, occupying third place in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator ranking and second in the food sector.
The Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam has brought 20 exhibitors from Indonesia to showcase products ranging from food and beverages, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, modest fashion and travel packages to Muslim-friendly destinations in Indonesia.
The opening ceremony was officiated with the sounding of the gong by the envoy, in the presence of Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud.
An angklung ensemble, comprising members of the Indonesian community in the Sultanate, also performed at the launch event. – Lyna Mohamad
