JAKARTA (XINHUA) – At least five people were killed after an elevator at a resort hotel crashed on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali, local police said.
The accident took place in Ubud, a tourism village in the district of Gianyar, at around 1pm.
According to the preliminary investigation report, the accident happened when five staff of the resort hotel entered the elevator to go up and its belt suddenly broke and it crashed on the ground, killing all passengers.
Ubud police chief Made Uder told local media that the elevator fell from a height of around 100 metres. All the people were immediately moved to the nearest hospital, he said, adding that officers have registered the case and ordered an investigation.
