    Elders honoured for legacy in Belait villages

    Some 160 elderly residents from the rural area in the Belait District gathered at the Sungai Mau Recreational Park on Saturday to commemorate Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

    Organised by the Village Consultative Council (MPK) of Kampong Bukit Sawat, the annual event saw the elderly in the Belait District attending in large numbers.

    Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad, the guest of honour, was welcomed by the event chairman Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Kampong Bukit Sawat Village Head Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann. The celebration commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a brief speech by Yang Berhormat Mohammad.

    “Each year, we celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri together with our seniors and elderly in a show of appreciation and care for their contributions, both in their knowledge and wisdom to the village and community,” he said.

    AE Enterprise Managing Director Chai Yum Fatt and LegCo member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman handed gifts and contributions to the attendees. Special awards were also presented to selected elderly for their contributions and efforts to their mukim and villages.

    The event also saw a special Mukun performance led by the Selendang Sutera Brunei Darussalam, silat performance and a lucky draw. – Daniel Lim
