The Law Enforcement Unit of the Labour Department found eight violations of the Employment Order 2009 in two separate operations last month.
On July 13, enforcers headed to Kampong Penanjong in the Tutong District and found six violations of the Employment Order 2009.
Among them were the failure to provide a written contract, unauthorised deduction of a worker’s salary, failure to provide leave for gazetted public holiday, failure to get authorisation of the work place, failure to make arrangements for an additional allocation of extra employees and employing a foreign worker without a licence from the Labour Commissioner.
During the inspection, two foreign workers were found working in positions not stated in their work passes.
Meanwhile, an operation was conducted on July 29 at a grocery store in Kampong Jaya Bakti, Mukim Berakas ‘A’ where two violations were found.
The owner of the shop had failed to provide a written contract and had hired a foreign worker without permit.
If found guilty, the employer is liable to a compound fine of BND600 for the first offence, BND900 for the second offence and will be prosecuted for the third offence or for the failure to pay the fine.
The Labour Department reminded employers to abide by the Employment Order 2009.
