PETALING JAYA (THE STAR) – Eight people have died in the landslide that hit a campsite at Father’s Organic Farm in Batang Kali early today.
In a tweet, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said as at 9.15am, eight people have died in the incident.
Nadma said a total of 92 victims had been found.
If added that 53 were found safe, seven injured and eight deceased but did not provide further details on the other victims.
“Search and rescue efforts are still ongoing by the Fire and Rescue Department, aided by other agencies including the police, Civil Defence Force, Health Department and the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART),” the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said in a Facebook post today.
The department said that they received an emergency call at 2.24am on the landslide at the farm in Jalan Genting, Batang Kali.
“Rescue teams from various departments started arriving at the scene at 3.04am.
“The incident took place along a road near the farm and hit the campsite.
“The height of the rubble is estimated at 30metres in a 1.21hectare area, they said.
Bernama also reported police confirming that the two of the deceased comprise a woman and a boy.
