Several long-terms projects have been outlined under the 12th National Development Plan (RKN 12), including upgrading works on existing infrastructure, replacement of equipment at water treatment plants nationwide, re-evaluation of the design and water treatment process.

This was said by Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid in response to a query from Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub on the quality of water.

The minister said that once completed, the project will lead to an improved water supply system effectively.

The minister said that upgrading works at water treatment plants, with some have been operational for over 30 years, and they include Layong Water Treatment Plant, Bukit Barun Water Treatment Plan, Badas Water Treatment Plant and Batang Duri Water Treatment Plant.

The minister said the construction of the Bukit Barun Water Treatment Plan is on the eight phase, and once completed, will increase clean water supply by 120 million litres per day to Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts.

Meanwhile, the Agis-Agis Water Treatment Plant is also being upgraded, allowing it to double its capacity, from 36 to 72 million litres per day. The project will start in April and expected to be completed by April, 2026.
