Educators embrace virtual tech in hybrid programme

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation for Vocational and Technical Education and Training’s (SEAMEO Voctech) Acting Centre Director and Deputy Director of Administration Pengiran Haji Mohamad Sufri bin Pengiran Ali said the course contents were designed to help develop learning and training strategies with resources to enlighten students on how Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) technologies can be applied to transform education and training.

He said this during the virtual closing and certificate presentation ceremony on Tuesday. “The techniques and content in this course can be tailored to improve the students’ learning experience, equipping them with skills to close the gap between Technical and Vocational Education and Training’s (TVET) graduates and industry,” he said

“It is hoped participants could utilise the experience from the hybrid programme among colleagues allowing institutions to incorporate the use of virtual technology while continuing to develop strategies to improve TVET training delivery,” Pengiran Haji Mohamad Sufri added.

Twenty-two professionals from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Bhutan completed their two-week Hybrid Teacher-Upgrading Programme on ‘Empowering Teachers for IR4.0 Using Virtual Technology’. The programme was jointly organised by the TVET Regional Centre, SEAMEO Voctech and LabTech International.

The participants, comprising professors, lecturers and IT developers, began their hybrid virtual training from July 10 to 13 and later blended with on-site training held in Batam, Indonesia from July 17 to 25.

President and founder of Labtech International Ltd Dr Steven McKee and business development executive Brad Kerr also attended.

The Hybrid Teacher Training Programme marked the fourth training programme SEAMEO Voctech jointly hosted with Labtech International and programmes on automotive, air conditioning – HVAC and Electricity. More programmes are under development to further support TVET training in the region.

The ‘Empowering Teachers for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) using Virtual Technology” programme by SEAMEO Voctech and Labtech aimed at improving the use of Virtual TVET among instructors and expanding TVET training in their institutions and countries despite the constraints of location and limited physical training facilities.  – Rokiah Mahmud
