Education, culture and people to people exchange are important areas of cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam, as highlighted in the action plan to implement the comprehensive partnership between both countries in the 2023-2027.

Ambassador of Vietnam to Brunei Darussalam Tran Anh Vu said this during the launch of the Vietnamese Language and Culture Day by the Language Centre of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), in collaboration with the Embassy of Vietnam, yesterday.

Vice-Chancellor of UBD Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle inaugurated the event.

“We are delighted that the youth and students of UBD have been active in promoting those cooperation,” the ambassador said.

“More Vietnamese youth and students are interested in understanding Bruneian people, the country and the culture.

“Students from Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, interning at the embassy have proposed a series of exchange activities, including producing a video on Brunei cultural attractiveness and organising a hybrid seminar on Vietnam-Brunei cultural cooperation in 2025 attended by government agencies and academia from both countries.”

Tran Anh Vu also said increased mutual understanding and the resumption of direct flights between the Sultanate and Vietnam have promoted tourism and travel activities.

“During the recent launch of the Vietnam Tourism Promotion Hall at the Brunei International Airport, the chief executive officer of Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) said that the number of travellers on RB flights between Vietnam and Brunei has reached over 12,000 and is expected to increase,” the ambassador said.

The celebration featured a variety of activities, including cultural booths showcasing Vietnam’s traditions and UBD students demonstrating traditional Bruneian board games.

Visitors were also treated to a display of traditional Vietnamese dishes such as xoi gac (red sticky rice) and spring rolls. – James Kon
