The Bangladesh government yesterday launched an e-passport service at the Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam.
The high commission announced the inauguration of its cutting-edge e-passport service, revolutionising the way its citizens travel and enhancing the automated border control management system.
The inaugural ceremony took place at the Bangladesh High Commission premises with Additional Secretary of Security Services Division, Ministry of Home Affairs of Bangladesh Md Saiful Islam as the chief guest.
Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affair and Immigration and National Registration Department of Brunei Darussalam along with Bangladeshi nationals were present at the ceremony.
In his speech, Md Saiful Islam highlighted the significance of this innovation, the history of the Bangladesh passport and e-passport technological advancement.
“We are excited to introduce the e-Passport Services, a pivotal step in modernising our nation’s travel infrastructure and secured national data,” he said.
Md Saiful Islam said the inauguration in the country is the 33rd of its kind after 32 countries including Italy, Lebanon and others.
The economic earnings and remittance by the Bangladeshi community all over the world requires the need for a friendly passport and immigration system, he said.
“The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam has been introduced as the 33rd Bangladeshi mission to provide the e-Passport Service,” said the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam and the programme chairperson Nahida Rahman Shumona.
She thanked the Bangladesh government for introducing the service to the Bangladesh community in Brunei.
Five Bangladeshi nationals received the delivery slip for the e-passport.
The Bangladeshi nation expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh government for availing the e-passport in Brunei.
The e-Passport Service is being implemented by the Security Services Division, Ministry of Home Affairs of Bangladesh through the ‘Implementation of e-passport and automated border control management in Bangladesh’ project. – Azlan Othman
