Two locals were sentenced to 18 months in jail after they pleading guilty to auto theft by abetment of a tow truck driver.

Senior Magistrate Azrimah Abdul Rahman on May 25 handed down the sentence to 35-year-old Mohammad bin Kepli and 42-year-old Mohd Dzulfadli bin Abdullah @ Eddy anak Ugeng.

Prosecutor Aeny Zullizam revealed that the duo had met on February 17 to strike up a plan to steal a car left by the roadside in Md Dzulfadli’s neighbourhood.

A few days later, they called for a tow truck service and had the car brought to Mohammad’s house in Kampong Bukit Beruang, in Tutong District. Mohammad paid the tow truck driver BND60.

Unknowingly, the duo told the tow truck driver that the car he towed was Mohd Dzulfadli’s and it was being repaired by Mohammad.

The car owner realised his car had gone missing from the end of the junction in Perpindahan Kampong Lambak Kanan and lodged a police report on February 18.

Investigations led to the duo’s arrest and the car’s recovery. The car owner claimed he has not been able to repair the car since 2015.
