SINGAPORE (ANN/STRAITS TIMES) – Su Jianfeng, a Vanuatu national originally from China, received a 17-month jail sentence as the last of 10 foreigners arrested in an anti-money laundering operation in August 2023.
His sentence included forfeiting SGD178.9 million of assets, representing 95.5 per cent of the SGD187 million fortune seized from him and his wife, Chen Qiuyan. Su deceived banks in Singapore by submitting false property sales contracts and forged loan agreements.
He claimed to have earned money as a real estate agent in Dubai, but leaked data revealed he worked as a property broker with a Singapore-based businessman, selling properties in Dubai to foreigners in Singapore, including individuals wanted in China and others convicted in the money laundering probe.
After his arrest, police found Su owned 12 properties in Singapore, seven luxury vehicles, millions in cash and bank accounts, and SGD26 million worth of cryptocurrency. He also claimed ownership of properties in Dubai worth a total of AED30 million.
In total, more than SGD940 million in assets have been forfeited from the 10 convicted foreigners in the case, with authorities stating that the majority of the SGD3 billion involved in the money laundering case belongs to 17 individuals who remain at large.
Su pleaded guilty to money laundering and forgery, following the sentencing of the other nine individuals in the case to jail terms ranging from 13 to 16 months. Some of them were deported after serving their sentences.
