KUALA LUMPUR (ANN/THE STAR) – Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the “Dubai Move” was not successful because the Prime Minister has the support of 150 out of 222 MPs currently.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that with anti-party hopping laws in place, such a move could not become a reality despite “some claiming to have obtained sufficient numbers of statutory declarations (SD) to overthrow the government.”
“To those who have big ambitions to become PM or a party that thinks it can propel someone (to be the) PM, don’t waste your time.
“The rakyat (people) has had enough. Learn from the past where we had three prime ministers in a single (parliamentary) term,” the Umno president told the media at the SK Taman Kota Jaya temporary flood relief centre on Tuesday.
On Dec 30, Community Communications Department deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that the Dubai Move took place while opposition and government leaders were on holiday in the United Arab Emirates capital.
Several Perikatan leaders have vehemently denied involvement in the purported plot.
Still, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor claimed that the Opposition had already obtained enough statutory declarations to form the new government.
