DPMM FC triumph in Brunei U-20 Youth League

DPMM FC emerged winners of the Brunei Youth League Under-20 (BYL U-20) after defeating IKLS MB5 2-0 at the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) Field in Berakas yesterday.

IKLS MB5 showed flashes of their potential especially through their danger man Muhd Haziq Naqiuddin Syamra whose quick dribbling invited the DPMM FC players to draw a foul.

DPMM FC stayed firm and weathered the storm before finding their feet.

Team captain Muhd Hakeme Yazid bin Said fashioned a chance out of nothing and tried to steer a backward header into goal following a corner from Awangku Faris Fadillah bin Pengiran Saiful Bahari.

Muhd Haziq Naqiuddin attempted a shot to the near post but DPMM FC goalkeeper Khairul Hisyam bin Haji Norihwan cleared the ball to safety.

From the ensuing corner, IKLS thought they had found the opening goal of the game as a group of players raced into their box jubilantly.

Their joy was short-lived as the official ruled out the goal to the relief of the DPMM FC camp.

It was an uneasy outing for Hakeme Yazid, who at 21 was the oldest player on the pitch, prompting the IKLS supporters to poke fun at his eligibility.

The tension was further raised after an incident involving an IKLS player enraged the supporters.

From a long punt into the box, the Gegar Gegar youth took the lead as Adrian Zizry Nur Khairi guided the ball into the back of the net with Mahmud Khalish bin Haji Zaifulizham’s credited with an assist.

IKLS carved the first opportunity in the second half as a decent free-kick from Mohd Haziq Asnawi was tipped away by Khairul Hisyam. DPMM FC doubled their lead seven minutes from time as Mohd Hakeme Yazid silenced their opponents with a tidy low finish following a cross from a teammate.

The Jerudong-based outfit also scooped three awards winning the Fair Play Award with Helme Panjang being named Best Coach of the League and Danish Firdaus Roddy Suhardy taking the Best Player of the League accolade.

Meanwhile, Kasuka FC forward Haziq Syazwan scooped the Top Scorer award.
