DPMM FC emerged champions after defeating Kasuka FC 2-1 in an highly entertaining final, bringing down the curtains to a domestic cup competition which revived football activities in the country.
The result brought an end to the country’s long search of a domestic silverware since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
Prior to this season, the nation has not witnessed the crowning of a league or cup champion since football activities were hit by the global virus, prompting a series of cancellations and uncertainty.
Muhammad Shahrazen Said grabbed a 72nd minute winner to help the Gegar Gegar men capture their second Brunei FA Cup title and their third domestic major trophy.
Kasuka had taken the lead in the 13th minute, through Leon Sullivan Taylor, who has been their main attacking threat towards the entirety of the competition.
However, DPMM FC team captain Muhammad Azwan Ali Rahman, struck on the brink of halftime to level the scores.
The Jerudong-based outfit also cements a berth as the country’s representative in the qualifying playoff stage of the upcoming 2023-2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) next season.
